Ueno Park

Ueno Park (上野公園 Ueno Kōen)- is a large park right beside Ueno Station. Ueno Park also contains Japan’s most famous Zoo, Ueno Zoo. The park is  also famous for its cherry tree’s, temples, and museums.

Ueno park has some 1000 cherry tree’s and is truly as beautiful site to behold during cherry blossom season.Ueno Park is also home to a few museums such as the Tokyo National Museum, the Orient Museum, the National Science Museum.There is  two shrines located inside the park; the temple of Benten, which can only be viewed not entered into and Toshogu Shrine which can be entered for a minimal fee of 200 Yen

Ueno Park’s History

Ueno park opened in 1873 it was previously occupied by the Kan’ei-ji ( temple) which guarded Edo Castle at the time the capital of Japan. After the temple was destroyed in war the Emperor decided to give the land to the city of Tokyo in 1924.
